Keep your After Effects project and its source media on Aspect so everyone works from the same files. You do not need to run Collect Files for each handoff when the AEP and all of its linked assets are already on the shared mount.

Work from a shared AEP

  1. Upload your footage, audio, and graphics to an Active Storage project in Aspect and give your teammates access.
  2. In the Aspect desktop app, mount that project on each computer.
  3. Import your media into After Effects from the mounted drive and save the .aep there too.
Keep the mounted path and folder structure consistent across computers. If an existing AEP references files on your Desktop or another drive, move those assets to Aspect and relink them first. Each artist also needs the fonts and plug-ins used by the project. To hand off work, save and close the AEP, let Aspect finish synchronizing, then have the next artist open it from their mount. Use one writer at a time for the shared AEP; simultaneous edits are not merged. See Mount your first project for the mounting steps.

Save a collected project or ZIP to Aspect

Collect Files still works as usual on Aspect Mount. When you want a separate package, choose File → Dependencies → Collect Files, select the footage you need to include, and choose a destination folder on the mounted drive. You can also compress the completed collected folder and save the ZIP to Aspect. The recipient extracts it before opening the project. A ZIP containing only the AEP does not include its linked media. Aspect automatically synchronizes saved packages to the team. Once synchronization finishes, other editors can access them from their own mounted drive. This removes the need to pass a physical hard drive or manually upload and download each handoff through Google Drive or Google Cloud Storage. Files opened through the mount are cached on each editor’s local disk. Editors can also pin the folder for a complete local copy while continuing to use the same mounted path.
