The better question is “where do we need flexibility, and who pays for it later?” If the show is going straight into a fast edit, light grade, social delivery, broadcast package, corporate film, doc series, or same-week turnaround, XAVC-I is often the cleanest choice. If the job is a commercial, feature, premium episodic, VFX-heavy sequence, LED volume work, HDR master, or anything where the color pipeline is part of the creative process, RAW or X-OCN can be worth the extra workflow weight.

## What changes when you choose RAW instead of XAVC-I

XAVC-I is a finished video recording format. It bakes more of the camera processing into the file, usually as log video with a defined color space such as S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3. You still have good grading room, especially with 10-bit 4:2:2 material, but you're grading a video signal.

XAVC-I can be very good, and professional XAVC supports 10-bit sampling, 4:2:2 color, wide color gamut, and HDR workflows depending on the camera and setting. RAW gives better source material, but most directors, producers, and editors are still reviewing compressed viewing files.
